The word “mosquito” is Spanish for “little fly.” Mosquitoes have slender segmented bodies. They normally have one pair of wings, a pair of halteres and three pairs of long hairy legs. They also have elongated mouthparts. Mosquitoes are members of a group of 3,500 species of small flies. As a result, various mosquitoes and illnesses are prevalent in the USA.

Three Main Types Of Mosquitoes

Aedes

Aedes mosquitoes are dusk to dawn biter. This means they are most active from sunset to sunrise. They can travel 5 to 10 miles since they hatch. Generally, the adult Aedes die in the winter and the species hibernate over the winter as eggs. The floodwater mosquitoes are vicious biters too and they belong to the family of Aedes. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. However, they can transmit diseases to animals.

The floodwater mosquito ingests heartworm larvae. First, an uninfected dog or cat can get infected with a bite. Next, the larvae migrate to the animal’s heart. This can cause severe side effects.

The Tree hole mosquito: These insects are vicious little biters and are daytime hunters. They are also called Asian tiger mosquitoes. Moreover, these insects can travel short distances and the flight range is between 1 to 2 miles. In addition, the Tree hole mosquitoes prefer to lay eggs in places such as tires and buckets. They lay their eggs over the winter. Moreover, the Tiger mosquito may transmit diseases such as St. Louis Encephalitis, Dengue virus, and the Zika virus.

Culex

The Culex mosquito is a type of Vector mosquito that carries diseases. Furthermore, the House mosquito belongs to the Culex family. The Culex mosquitoes transmit the West Nile virus and the St. Louis Encephalitis. They lay their eggs in stagnant water, abandoned pools, and clogged gutters. The Culex mosquitoes are active from dusk to dawn and they are considered very aggressive.

Anopheles

The Anopheles mosquito is commonly called the malaria mosquito. People can get malaria through the female Anopheles mosquito bites. They can also transmit any infections through a previous blood meal. They are active from dusk to dawn. The malaria mosquito lays eggs in marshes and semi-transparent wetlands.

Mosquitoes And Illnesses: Unique Characteristics

Most importantly, mosquitoes have the potential to transmit various mosquito illnesses and diseases. For example, mosquitoes typically bite at night. They are active both indoors and outdoors. Consequently, the mosquito prefers Avian (Bird) hosts but it will bite humans and can transmit diseases. Therefore, it is best to control mosquitos by using a company that helps to eradicate the mosquitos in and out of your home.

Mosquitoes or Not Mosquitoes?

Crane flies look like giant mosquitoes, but they are not. They can scare people, however, crane flies are absolutely nothing to be concerned about because they don’t bite and they can’t transmit any diseases. Overall, they are harmless to people.
