Mosquito Season Kicks Off In May

Mosquitoes are a serious threat to our families and pets because they tend to carry diseases. Mosquito-borne diseases are spread through the bite of a mosquito that is infected. Diseases that are spread to people by mosquitoes include Zika Virus, West Nile Virus, and Malaria.

Mosquito season tends to kick off in late spring, as “April Showers” create mosquito “nurseries” (standing pools of water). The mosquito season tends to last until the winter months when the weather gets cooler.

Mosquitos usually hang around gutters, fence lines, shrubs, and mulched areas of yards as water tends to pool in these places. Water pooling, as previously mentioned, is a mosquito incubator.

Once mosquitos are fully developed, they will hang around their area if they have access to food (we are the food). So how do we take back our yards from these pesky lethal insects?
