What is a Liquid Aeration?
A liquid aeration is an alternative to the traditional core aeration. The main benefit of any aeration is to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the soil and reduce soil compaction. It is traditionally done by running a large machine over your lawn which pokes holes to achieve these important benefits. With this method, we aim to provide the same results with less mess!
How Does Liquid Aeration Work?
A liquid aeration is a natural solution that contains Humic and Fulvic acids. These ingredients are sprayed onto the soil and, when watered in, mixes deep into the ground and expands. These tiny pockets of air allow for water and nutrients to freely get to the root system of the grass without disrupting the top layer of soil. By limiting that disruption we are also limiting space on the surface for new weeds to grow.
What Does Liquid Aeration Consist of?
There are a variety of products on the market but we have developed a close relationship with our trusted supplier to ensure that there is the right mix of natural microbes and humic acid. This important combination allows a breakdown of thatch and promotes improved nutrient uptake. Which in turn, allows your grass to become more resistant to disease and drought stress and also improving the results of your existing lawn care solution.
Core Aeration vs. Liquid Aeration
You may ask yourself, what’s the difference? Is one better than the other? The answer is yes and no. Each solution provides similar benefits. While a mechanical core aeration provides quicker results by physically puncturing the soil, those holes get filled in relatively quickly as the soil settles. A liquid aeration provides a sightly slower process but still penetrates and contributes to the health of the soil providing more long term results.
Benefits of a Liquid Aeration in Ontario
With the limitations that we have with traditional weed control, we had to find a solution that achieved the a similar agronomic benefit but without the risk of creating more space for weeds to grow. This is why the liquid aeration was so intriguing given our woes with weeds. While the core aeration has faster results, it also exposes numerous holes throughout the lawn. Overseeding is helpful and recommended to do at the same time as aerating, many people are unaware that weeds grow, on average 8 times faster than grass. So in fact… speedy isn’t always the solution when deciding which option suits your needs. So, Choose wisely!
Can I overseed with this method?
Absolutely! Because there are components of the solution that break down thatch, this also allows for more soil to seed contact which also promotes more germination of new grass seed. Always remember to keep the new seeds hydrated for at least 2 weeks and you won’t be disappointed!
