5 Tips to Applying Fertilizer to Your Lawn in the Spring

With Winter coming to an end, it’s the perfect time to start preparing to fertilize your lawn for the Spring, so that you can have beautiful lush green grass. While fertilizing can seem like a straightforward process, there are several things to keep in mind for optimal fertilization. Here are 5 fertilizing tips so that you can grow the perfect lawn this Spring.

Get a Spreader

Fertilizing your lawn this spring will require having the right equipment. When spring comes comes around, you don’t want to be in a position where you can’t start applying fertilizer because you don’t have what it takes to do so – we recommend getting a spreader. Not only will it make the distribution process far easier, it also saves you time and isn’t especially pricey.

Apply on Freshly Mowed Grass

Fertilization is made a great deal easier with grass that has just been mowed. This will not only make it easier to keep track of the areas where the fertilizer has already been applied when applying it but will also give the fertilizer an easier path to the soil it’s mixing with.

Apply Evenly

When applying fertilizer it is of the utmost importance that it is distributed evenly across your lawn. To do this, start the application process at the edges of your lawn before working your way inside, moving back and forth across the lawn. Be certain you’ve covered the entirety of the lawn, equal distribution is crucial – you don’t want uneven patches.

Don’t Apply too Much

Fertilizer is what helps your grass grow, providing the soil the right nutrients for the grass to absorb. With that said, apply too much fertilizer and your grass will be burned and susceptible to disease. When it comes down to fertilizer application, it’s best to put too little than too much. Safety first.

Remember to Water

Remember, your lawn won’t be done fertilizing this Spring without watering, which greatly improves the fertilizer’s effectiveness by making sure it goes down to the soil, getting the nutrients where they need to go. Moreover, the water reduces the risk of the chemicals in the fertilizer burning the grass, as it washes the blades of grass clean of the fertilizer.
